The United States will pay Israel for the sale of fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II fighters to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by providing direct access to secret satellites of the Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS) infrared early warning system for ballistic missile launches, Breaking Defense writes.
The publication also reports that the agreement envisaged by the American and Israeli sides “will provide Israel with critical defense platforms in a very short time, using the production slots planned for the US Armed Forces.” “Israel must replace some of its platforms, especially heavy helicopters,” writes Breaking Defense.
The publication, citing sources in Israel, notes that the agreement “guarantees the superiority of Israel for decades to come” and “will help preserve Israel's security.”
In October, Bloomberg, citing sources, reported that the US State Department had notified Congress of support for a proposal to sell 50 F-35 fighters to the UAE.
In September, US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper said that Israel's quality military superiority in the Middle East, regulated by the Qualitative Military Edge (QME) mechanism, will continue after the possible sale of the F-35 Lightning II fighters to the UAE.
In January, The Drive wrote that US President Donald Trump was most likely referring to the SBIRS satellites when referring to the “early warning system” that allowed to take timely measures to save the lives of the American military during the Iranian missile strike in Iraq.
