After England's 2-1 success after extra time over Denmark, the European Championship final in London was celebrated with street parties. Not always peaceful.
Several English football fans had stopped a double-decker bus in London's Leicester Square after the final whistle and then climbed onto the bus. There they jumped around, waving the English flag. Videos of the scene made the rounds on social networks.
A total of 20 people were arrested during bus hijacking and other celebrations on London's streets. The London police announced this on Thursday. It was about assault, disturbance of public order and attacks on police officers.
“After England's fantastic victory, officials were all over London to patrol and interact with the people. There were large groups of people who mostly gathered in central London, officials stayed close,” the police said.
Corona distance rules were not observed at the celebrations. However, there were no arrests for violations of the corona measures.
