At least 18 Pakistanis, including 12 children, died in a bus fire while driving home from disastrous monsoon flooding.

Police said the passengers died overnight while traveling home by bus from a makeshift flood camp near Karachi city.
Pakistan has been hit by unprecedented monsoon rains this year, leaving a third of the country submerged, eight million people were forced to relocate. The destruction caused $28 billion in damage.
As the waters slowly subside, thousands of displaced people live in tent cities. Some have already begun to return home.
There were 45 people on the bus in which the fire broke out. A little more than half of the passengers escaped the fire.

“The fire probably broke out in the bus's air-conditioning system, but an investigation will reveal the true cause,” police officer Hashim Brohi said.
B Pakistan often experiences horrific road traffic fatalities due to poor vehicle maintenance, bad roads, careless driving and poorly trained emergency services.
As a reminder, this year the monsoon season began in Pakistan for a month earlier than usual. Continuous downpours have damaged thousands of homes and destroyed hundreds of bridges.
