11 percent of young Americans named Jews as perpetrators of the Holocaust

Eleven out of 100 Americans between the ages of 18 and 39 identified Jews as perpetrators of the Holocaust. This is evidenced by the results of a study conducted in 50 US states by the Commission on Material Claims of Jews in Germany, according to its website.

Especially often this answer to this question was given in New York – there it was considered correct by 19 percent of respondents. At the same time, the fact that in the course of the mass extermination 6 million Jews were killed was known to only a little more than a third of young US residents. More than 36 percent believe that 2 million or fewer people were killed by the Nazis.

In addition, almost every second interviewee was unable to name a single concentration camp or Jewish ghetto during World War II. In total, there were 48 such respondents in the country out of 100, and most of all – 60 percent – in the state of Texas. The organization's president, Gideon Taylor, called the results “shocking and upsetting” and called for an intensification of the fight against Holocaust denial on online platforms: this is where, according to researchers, historical data is distorted.

More than 1,000 interviews were reported across the country as part of the study. The organization does not name the exact number of participants.

In May of this year, it was reported that US President Donald Trump was about to sign a new education law, thanks to which students will gain more knowledge about Nazi crimes.
