The tests of the Superjet New aircraft, which “at most” consists of domestic components, will cost the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) 1.08 billion rubles. Tests are due to start in 2023. Now the Irkut corporation, which will produce Superjet New, has announced a tender for the preparation and performance of “resource tests” of the aircraft.
“Endurance testing is an important element of testing, during which it is checked how well the structure withstands the stresses that arise during each flight and can lead to cracks,” explained Alexey Sinitskiy, RBC Director of Research and Development at Infomost Consulting.
As previously stated by the head of Rostec, which includes UAC, Sergei Chemezov, Superjet New will consist of 97% of Russian components. The Russian-French SaM146 engine will be replaced by the domestic PD-8. Certification of the domestic device is scheduled for 2023.
“The PD-8 engine will not be inferior to the engines that will appear in the world in the next decade in terms of reliability, operational safety, and also in terms of maintainability. The PD-8 concept provides for the creation of a family of modern gas turbine engines with the ability to improve specific fuel consumption, reduce the life cycle cost and enhance customer focus, ”promised Yuri Shmotin, General Designer of the United Engine Corporation (UEC).
The current Superjet 100 aircraft consist of only 50% of Russian components. In 2015, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov approved a plan for import substitution in civil aviation. The document also mentioned the creation of the Superjet New. The cost of creating a completely domestic airliner was estimated at 120 billion rubles.
In July, after the failure to promote the Sukhoi Superjet 100 airliner abroad, the UAC decided to make it the basis of regional aviation in Russia. According to the developers, the main problems of the airliner, which in the past have led to several plane crashes, have been resolved.
